The excitement is building, as Tramlines, Sheffield's FREE music festival extraordinaire, returns for it's third year next week and another incredible weekend of live music across the city. As it does, the festival also returns to Sheffield City Hall, this time for a takeover of the venue's Grand Ballroom.
Following the success of the Audio Visual Zone in the Memorial Hall last year, legendary Sheffield electronic duo I Monster have once again teamed up with local, critically-acclaimed film and music festival Sensoria to create a unique and intriguing programme of events for Saturday 23 July 2011.
This year, the Audio Visual Zone has expanded to the setting of the Ballroom, where I Monster and Sensoria's feast for the senses will culminate in a collaborative set from an eleven-piece band, featuring I Monster themselves and Stephen Mallinder (ex-Cabaret Voltaire), against the back drop of a psychedelic light show.
The Tramlines takeover will continue into the night on Saturday 23 July, when Ballroom regulars Hot Pants, Sheffield's ultimate 70s and 80s disco, will be throwing down the gauntlet to DJs from the legendary Beat Club, which is to be resurrected from is former glory days at the Leadmill, for a spectacular night of retro classics. A great way to round off Saturday.
Meanwhile the live music will continue on Sunday 24 July 2011, as local eccentronic artist the Crippled Claw (ex-Kings Have Long Arms) and his
Chanteuse, will showcase a complementary line up of unusual and left-field music, including a set by the Temple Rhythms Gospel Choir.
In addition to the Ballroom events, Sheffield City Hall will also be throwing open the doors of the Oval Hall foyer for an exhibition of local artist Martin F
Bedford's iconic poster pieces. Refreshments and light bites will also be available from the Foyer Bar and Grilll.
As is the Tramlines policy, all of the above events are completely free and no tickets will be needed, however admittance will be on a first come, first in basis.
