A director at leading leisure operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV) has taken on one of the top roles at the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity
(CIMSPA).
Lorenzo Clark, director of operations at Sheffield International Venues (SIV), has been elected as the regional chair for CIMSPA Yorkshire and Humber.
CIMSPA was launched when the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) and the Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure (ISPAL) joined to create a single professional development body
for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector.
The aim of CIMSPA is to unify the one million sport and physical activity professionals throughout the UK by representing the interests.
Lorenzo, who was previously regional chair for the ISRM, said: “It’s an honour to have been selected to take on this position, particularly in the year that the country is preparing to stage
the 2012 Olympic Games.
“We will focus on helping drive forward the development of the organisation, growing membership and ultimately helping to put leisure, sport and tourism at the forefront as key industries in
our economy.”
Lorenzo, originally from North Wales, joined SIV in 2005 as general manager of the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), before being promoted to director of operations in
2008.
He has more than 20 years of industry experience having previously managed Hambleton Leisure Centre, in North Allerton, and a number of centres for Leeds City Council including the South Leeds
Stadium.
Lorenzo added: “The Yorkshire and Humber region is a strong base for sporting and leisure excellence, with Sheffield alone offering international and community venues as part of SIV’s
portfolio.
“A key focus for 2012 will be on the legacy of the Olympic Games and how we can maximise the opportunities which arise on the back of this. We also need to ensure proactively engage with key
influencers in the region to promote the benefits of sport, recreation and physical activity at all levels.”
SIV operates one of the biggest concentrations of diverse international venues in Europe including Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EIS
Sheffield), iceSheffield and Don Valley Stadium.
